I had a wonderful time at Sydney Literature Festival. I led a full day storytelling workshop and performed a show called DARK ENCHANTMENTS with the fabulous Australian author Kate Forsyth.
What an extraordinarily beautiful place Sydney is. So often, famous places disappoint. They are so iconic, so photographed, your expectations of them are unmeetable. But Sydney Harbour is totally wonderful, especially by night.
I’m back from my latest adventure! I began in Hanoi and spent three weeks travelling down the coast of Vietnam, via Hue and Hoi An, to Saigon. Then I spent a few days exploring the Mekong delta before flying to Goa on New Year’s Eve. And Goa was where I stayed for a month.
I wrote most days, but I’m still not sure if it will ever be published. Sometimes it’s nice just to write for your own pleasure 🙂
Now I’m gearing up for World Book Day – which is something of a misnomer, because it has become a sprawling beast for many authors. I am booked solid for the whole of the week and the two weeks either side. I’m not complaining, but it does get overwhelming when you’re doing four sessions a day, five days a week! You find yourself talking while your brain is shouting at you: ‘Have I already said this?!’ The answer is YES, but you haven’t the slightest idea when it was 😀
And then I’m off to Nigeria, with a group of fellow authors, poets and illustrators. We’ll be working in an international school in Lagos for the week. That should be a whole lot of fun!
I am thrilled to be launching my new show The Road to Varanasi at the Birmingham Literature Festival next week. October 9 @ 8pm in the Edwardian Tea Rooms, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square, Birmingham,B3 3DH
In The Road to Varanasi, Cat conjures the places and the faces, the emotion and the magic of an extraordinary land.
Dawn mist and monkeys at the Taj Mahal. A sublime sunset and astonishing kindness at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Romance in Goa and the healing ocean. Life and death in one final embrace on the banks of the Ganges at Varanasi…
Cat shares her journey through India: an emotional, physical and spiritual odyssey that left her blessed, refreshed and overwhelmed by the love of strangers.
Indian-themed cocktails and teas will be available.
Emmy Travis dreams of being a famous actress. A celebrity! But right now, her biggest challenge is landing a part in the school’s Christmas play.
When the teacher in charge says he will give male roles to boys only, the girls form a protest group – The Hairy Marys. And that is when it starts to happen…
Fame, friendship and daydreaming collide in a modern day fantasy.

I have a new website! www.wonderandmagic.com It features my specialist literacy and creativity work with under 7s.
The aim of these Wonder & Magic workshops is specifically to fire up imaginations and boost creativity. I make MAGIC with language and evoke a sense of WONDER. Together, these two powerful elements inspire young children to want to create and share stories.
How do I do it? I use a multi-sensory approach: musical instruments, computer generated soundscapes, props, puppets, wondrous things, stories… and lots of ME!
Check out the website for full information. I am taking bookings NOW!
I’ve just returned from my latest adventure – ten weeks in Egypt and India.
Pyramids at Giza
Cat at the Taj
I began in Cairo, seeing the pyramids and the wondrous Tutankhamun collection at the Cairo Museum. Then I flew down to Luxor to the Valley of the Kings, and the breathtaking Temple of Karnak. Then it was on to Delhi…
From Delhi I went to Ludhiana, where I performed at the Kahaani Children’s Storytelling Festival. Then on to Amritsar and sunset at the exquisite Golden Temple. Next – Agra, and the Taj Mahal at dawn. And then it was on to Goa for five weeks. And yes, I spent it in a bikini on the beach beneath the palm trees, but I WAS working! I was gathering material for an adult book, which I am working on right now.
From Goa, I moved on to Jaipur, to perform and speak at the world’s biggest free literary festival. There were 250,000 people there over five days!
And finally – Varansasi, the magical ancient city on the banks of the Ganges. Nothing can follow Varanasi…
